The purpose of the corporation has been one of my long-standing object of scholarly research (see my recent publications on corporations and their significant limited liability privilege).

 

For some years, now, I have been involved in discussions and projects that are now coming to maturity and go beyond scholarship to direct regulatory engagement. The question is how can we redefine the purpose of large powerful corporations to be more integrative and inclusive - and not simply about the maximization of shareholder value. Like for many other things (eg gender diversity in company governance) a number of us have reached the conclusion that this will only happen on a significant scale if the law is brought to change. Initiatives in that direction are becoming everyday more numerous and concrete. You can see a few illustrations of this on that page.
